Cook a Spiced Apple Breakfast that Keeps the Doctor Away

Three apples variegated in color are held in a par of white hands with white nail polish. The background is blurry, leaving the focus on the apples.

According to Ayurveda, a cooked apple a day indeed keeps the doctor away. Starting the day with warm, cooked apples helps to stimulate regular bowel movements, builds the appetite for lunch, and increases alertness. This breakfast helps to pacify and counter-balance symptoms of increased air/space (Vata) and calms anxiety, especially in the colder months. Cinnamon is a warming spice and clove enhances digestion and metabolism and also counters gas and bloating.

Ready in 10 minutes or less.

Ingredients

  • 2 small apples, peeled & diced into small pieces

  • 1 stick cinnamon

  • 3 cloves

  • 1/2 tsp ghee

  • 1/2 cup water

Preparation

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small covered pot.

  2. Cook over low heat until apples are soft.

  3. Discard cloves and cinnamon.

Enjoy and be well,
