Winter Watchlist: Uplifting Movies & Shows to Warm Your Heart

A group of friends sitting close together on a couch, sharing popcorn in various containers. One person holds a fluffy teddy bear for added coziness. The setting is relaxed, with warm lighting and a patterned pillow nearby.

I don’t watch a lot of TV, but sometimes, especially in winter, there’s nothing better than curling up with a cozy blanket and a warm drink. While I always encourage getting outside—no matter the season—there’s something so comforting about slowing down, sinking into the couch, and revisiting old favorites on a chilly day.

So, I asked my team to share their go-to feel-good movies and shows—the ones that bring warmth, joy, and a little extra coziness to the season.

Invite childlike wonder into your life.

If you haven’t turned on a family-friendly movie in a while, you’re missing out! These stories often have simple but universal messages that resonate for all ages. I love that each member of my team—myself included!—had a movie like this to share with you.

Po, the panda from Kung Fu Panda, in a dynamic kung fu pose against a bright red and orange background with the movie title in bold letters below.

Kung Fu Panda

I watched this years ago when my kids were little, and it's still one of my favorite movies of all time. Anytime I need to be reminded to believe in myself and fulfill my dharma, I watch the adventures of Po as he fulfills his destiny.

Watch on Netflix.

The animated characters Sophie and Howl from Studio Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle, surrounded by a dark, magical setting with glowing embers. The title and tagline highlight it as an Academy Award-nominated feature.

Howl’s Moving Castle

Basically any Studio Ghibli movie is a cozy watch. The animation, beautiful colors, and uplifting music make Howl’s Moving Castle such a cozy watch during these colder months

Watch on Hulu, Prime, or Max.

A scene from Kiki's Delivery Service showing Kiki leaning on a counter with her black cat Jiji in front of a bakery display filled with bread. The 35th-anniversary banner appears at the top.

Kiki’s Delivery Service

I loved watching this movie on sick days as a kid. Kiki's desire to well is so precious, and the lessons she learns about finding her magic are ones I return to again and again in my creative work to avoid burnout.

Watch on Hulu, Prime, or Max.

Try an uplifting television series.

Turning on a beloved show feels like visiting old friends. I love to cheer for their triumphs and wince at their failures. Whether you’re in the mood for a long-haul binge or a limited series run, these titles are full of joy and tenderness.

The main cast of the TV show Friends smiling and posing together, dressed in black against a simple gray background. The show's title appears below in colorful text with dots between the letters.

Friends

I started watching Friends back in college when waiting for new episodes each week was the norm (no binge-watching back then!). It was so fun to see characters who were just a few years older than me figuring out life, friendships, and love. And after all these years, it still makes me laugh.

Watch on Hulu, Max, and Prime.

Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, smiling warmly and waving, holding a soccer ball, with a bright blue sky and a soccer stadium in the background.

Ted Lasso

I know I’m late to this one, but I finally gave Ted Lasso a chance—and I get the hype! The character growth is amazing, and even in the toughest moments, there’s so much warmth and kindness. The way the show portrays anxiety through Ted’s story also really resonated with me. If you need a pick-me-up, this is the perfect watch.

A Korean drama featurin actor Ji Chang-Wook and actress Shin Hye-Sun sitting on a sandy beach under a bright blue sky with soft clouds. They both gaze upwards, smiling peacefully, with an airplane flying in the distance.

Welcome to Samdal-ri

This show is all about finding yourself again after everything falls apart. A scandal sends Cho Sam-dal back home, where she faces nosy neighbors and her ex-boyfriend. Every episode warmed my heart. It's such a lovefest with lively and caring characters who help the protagonist start again. The antics of her neighbors frequently made me laugh.

Turn on a feel-good movie.

With my kids grown up, movie night is a time for my husband and me to kick back and relax. Whether you love romance or need a good laugh, these suggestions are meant to make you smile.

A poster for Love at First Sight featuring two characters seated across from each other at an airport gate, with a warm sunset in the background. The tagline mentions the theme of connection.

Love At First Sight

Yes, it’s cheesy—but that’s what makes it great! Sometimes, we just need a feel-good love story, and this one is light, sweet, and heartwarming.

A group of men in suits, toasting with drinks against a sunny, grassy field backdrop, with the title Waking Ned Devine above them in white text. The tagline emphasizes it as a feel-good comedy.

Waking Ned Devine

It's 91 minutes of perfect comedy. It is both riotous and deeply feeling! I've rarely been so charmed by a movie. I love introducing it to people because they are never prepared and always grateful.

Rent on Apple TV, Prime.

A poster for Sister Act featuring Whoopi Goldberg dressed as a nun, standing confidently with sunglasses and red heels, set against a row of other nuns in white habits.

Sister Act

A family favorite. Whoopi Goldberg, as a lounge singer disguised as a nun, makes me laugh every time. Great for music lovers. I also recommend Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, despite the lackluster reviews (young Lauryn Hill!).

Rent on Apple TV, Prime.

Whether you're curling up for some much-needed me-time or watching with loved ones, these stories are little reminders of joy, resilience, and the magic in everyday life. So grab a blanket, make yourself a warm drink, and enjoy!

Be well,
